Hello! I am Erica Cohen Mooney
and I am one of the First Grade teachers at AEA Odyssey Academy! I was born and raised in New York City. I went to school in a beautifully tiny town in upstate New York, Geneseo, before moving to California in the summer of 2015. My husband Ryan & I moved to Pacific Palisades with our dog Lexie last spring and got married this summer! I am an avid reader and passionate cook. On the weekends I enjoy hiking, going to the beach, and exploring one of the many parts of Los Angeles I haven't visited yet!
I attended college at
the State University of New York College at Geneseo where I majored in Early
Childhood and Childhood Education with a concentration in Human Development and
minors in both Psychology and Business. I student taught in a rural First Grade
classroom in Warsaw New York and an urban Kindergarten classroom in Rochester
New York. During the summer of 2010 I volunteered at a battered women's shelter
and an after school program for at-risk youth in Ashdod, Israel. Since then
I have worked with children from two to eleven years old in a variety of
positions including tutor, volunteer and teacher.
Last year I taught a 4th and 5th grade
combination class at Albert Einstein Academy's Agua Dulce Campus. It was an
amazing experience but I am thrilled
to be working with younger students again. I cannot wait to see the amazing
growth that will happen over this upcoming school year. I aim to support students
as they play an active role in their own learning experiences, build
confidence, and create a classroom environment that makes students look forward
to coming to school each day! If you have any questions you can always contact me at: [email protected]
